Is Rabbi Zev Cohen of Chicago the Rabbi Moshe Heinemann of Baltimore?
Over the last few years I keep hearing rumors about Rabbi Zev Cohen doing what he can to protect sex offenders verses working with law enforcement officials in having these criminals prosecuted. Rabbi Cohen is associated with Congregation Adas Yeshurun Anshe Kanesses Israel.
The scary part about all of this is that Rabbi Zev Cohen is on the special beit din (Jewish religious court) created in Chicago to address sexual offenses. At first the rumor was that Rabbi Feurst that was the problem, yet as time has gone by the reality is that the problems keep pointing at Rabbi Zev Cohen and not Rabbi Shmuel Feurst.
So what can be done? The answer is always public outcry!
If you are a part of the orthodox community of Chicago or the surrounding suburbs your voice needs to be heard loud and clear. You need to start asking questions and encourage your friends to do the same.
You need to start demanding that Rabbi Zev Cohen to be accountable for his actions. If he is really an advocate for sex offenders and the truth, you need to demand that he is removed from the special beit din and have him replaced by someone who is not an power and control junkie."

What an ambiguous post! Do you have any specific anecdotal evidence that he is harboring pedophiles or is your information just based on hearsay.
I live in Chicago, and I'm involved in the community. Rabbi fuerst has long been harboring pedophiles, but I have heard nothing about Rabbi Zev Cohen.
rumors say that Fuerst has been acting under the direction of Cohen. Very similar to Hopfer acting under the direction of Heinemann.
That post about Rabbi Zev Cohen is untrue and careless. I have known him for 20 years--I am sure that he is acting in the best interests of the victims.
Sorry - the notion that Rabbi Fuerst cowtows to Rabbi Cohen is absurd - especially if you know the dynamics of the Chicago rabbinate.
But I would not expect anything more from this site...
1. substantiate facts before making accusations
2. as the commenter before said, rabbi fuerst wouldnt be taking direction from rabbi cohen
3. anyone who knows baltimore at all would know also the same with rabbi hopfer and rabbi heinemann, the former wouldnt be following the latter blindly on this.

It is July 2010. I just came across this posting.
This story is absolutely EVIL. i was a member of Rabbi Cohen's congregation for for a number of years until I moved in 2005. Around 2003-2004, I heard him announce one Sabbath morning that he would be speaking an hour before evening services on an important 'topic to be announced' and that no one under, either 18 or 21 (I don't recall), would be allowed to attend.
His entire speech was a railing against not only the molesters of our children, but against those who protect and defend them. He did not differentiate between rabbis, professionals, etc. In fact, he said that ANYONE who knows of such activity is required by halacha (Jewish Law) to report it to the police!
This is obviosly just a nutshell of his talk, but I was there. I hope that each and every one of you critics of this man, spreaders of this vile slander, I hope you literally CRAWL on your hands and knees to beg his forgiveness.

RAbbi Cohen has nothing to do with harboring pedophiles. The right wing agudah types have swept it under the rug. Fired one Rebbe. The Rebbe then went to a modern orthodox day school and repeated his offense and was then again fired for abusing boys during bar mitzvah lessons. HOWEVER, the Agudah did not warn the modern orthodox school about the past crimes that were never reported to authorities.
