AJOP Conference Coming Up Soon - Look At Who's Speaking

I was just informed that the AJOP conference is coming up on January 14 - 16, 2007 in Baltimore, MD.

Once again it appears they are not taking the issue of sexual abuse seriously. Perhaps everyone should contact Rabbi Yitzchok Lowenbraun and ask him why?

Association For Jewish Outreach Programs
1705 Reisterstown Road Baltimore MD 21208
Telephone 410-653-2567
FAX 410-653-6315
Electronic mail & Information: info@ajop.com

The line up of speakers includes several individuals who it seems have done everything in their power to cover up cases of sexual abuse/assault. The cast of characters include:

  1. Rabbi Shmuel Kamenetsky - Multiple cases
  2. Rabbi Ahron Feldman - Multiple cases at Ner Israel
  3. Rabbi Dovid Cohen - Multiple cases
  4. Rabbi Tzvi Hersh Weinreb - still debating if Weinreb should be listed here?
  5. Rabbi Menachem Goldberger - supporter of Eliezer Eisgrau
  6. Rebbetzin Bracha Goldberger - supporter of Eliezer Eisgrau
  7. Rabbi Ronnie Greenwald - supporter of Mordecai Tendler
  8. Rabbi Doron Kornbluth - speaker for Menken's program in Baltimore.
  9. Rebbetzin Chana Weinberg - mother of alleged sex offender Matis Weinberg, supporter of Eisgrau
  10. Dr. Aviva Weisbord - sister of alleged sex offender Matis Weinberg, friend of Eisgrau

At least Rabbi Yaakov Menken isn't in the line up.

Why would you even think of putting R. Tzvi Hersh Weinreb on this list?

I think I understand why JS might consider putting Weinreb on the list. Considering he's the executive vice president of the OU, what has he done to address clergy sexual abuse? There are several orthodox rabbis that he is aware of that either raped, molested or sexually manipulated. There have been many requests over the last 3 - 4 years that the OU create a site on their web page similar to what the awareness center does. Isn't it the responsibility of an organization like the OU to protect unsuspecting individuals from being raped, molested or manipulated?

If the OU can figure out how to make something kosher, they should be able to figure out how to keep orthodox rabbis from perpetuating sex crimes upon our communities.

btw many people outside the orthodox world look at the OU as being sort of like the vatican for frum Jews. Most people in the general socieity have never heard of Agudath Israel.

Leave R' Dovid Cohen off the list. There's no evidence that he covered anything up.

I think Cohen should stay on the list. How many survivors out there went to Cohen for help and he did nothing? I keep hearing stories about how Cohen backed down from helping survivors because his status as a rabbis, rabbi was threatened.

I've also heard rumors that someone threatened his safety. If this is true he should have made a police report.

Look at people like Avraham Twersky. I remember seeing a video clip on this blog about him talking about the threats made against him when he started talking about women being battered. He stood up against the threats.

Rabbi Yosef Blau also has been advocating for survivors of abuse even with the harassment and threats made against him.

Vicki Polin at The Awareness Center has also been harassed and threaten. She continues to stand her ground.

Cohen didn't have the balls to stand up against the threats, yet still parades around saying he's an expert in abuse. Leave him up there.

It was very mysterious this past year when Rabbi Cohen first said he would stand up for victims who were abused by Kolko. He suddenly made an about face from what I'm told and shooed them off with the outrageous excuse that Margulies has a right to protect himself. It's well known that Margulies uses mafia tactics to silence victims and their supporters. Does he have Dovid Cohen crapping in his pants too?

Someone should make a web page like The Awareness Center regarding people like Margulies. It's time to expose those types of folks for what they are. . . nothing more then thugs.
