Using A Shadchan or Other Dating Service

The majority of rapes are not committed by strangers but by those who know their victims, who have gone out with them previously and are supposedly their friends. This phenomenon is called "acquaintance" or "date" rape. Date rape is forced, unwanted intercourse with a person you know. It is a violation of your body and your trust. It is an act of violence.

"More than 1 in every 7 women who have ever been married, have been raped in marriage." - Diana Russell, "Rape in Marriage", Indiana University Press, 1990

So does this make using a shadchan safer or more dangerous?
Since the majority of rapes are committed by those who know the victims, are strangers then statistically safer and a shadchan is a good bet?
Please clarify the point, otherwise it appears that anything that bears the words "rape" or "sexual abuse" gets posted here.

Don't blame the shadchan if someone doesn't tell them or answers dishonestly about having a criminal record.

Aren't Shadchan's supposed to be checking out individuals before they make introductions? Isn't that one of the main reasons a person would use a shadchan?

I personally believe a shadchan should run criminal background checks on individuals prior to the introductions. Some people won't mind dating someone with a criminal past. Prisoners get married in jail all the time. But at least they are aware of what they are getting themselves in to ahead of time.
