Will the "Where, What, When" Publish Articles about Sexual Abuse in the Baltimore community?

From: A member of the Baltimore Othodox Community

There's a well known monthly newspaper in the observant community in Baltimore called Where, What, When. Over the last eight years that I have lived in Pikesville, I have never seen one article in the magazine that talks about sexual abuse.

The paper tends to camouflage the realities of the community by making everything sound so pristine. I guess I shouldn't be shocked since one of the regular writers is Rebbetzin Chana Weinberg (the mother of Rabbi Matis Weinberg). It's unbelievable that her column is called "Shalom Bayis." She's the "Dear Abby" of the observant community of Baltimore.

Dr. Aviva Weisbord (sister of Rabbi Matis Weinberg) also writes regularly. She's a licensed psychologist in the state of Maryland. I learned about her ethical practices when helping survivors in the case of Rabbi Eliezer Eisgrau.

Another regular writer is Rabbi Hillel Tendler (brother of Mordecai and Aron Tendler).

It makes one wonder why the Where, What, When doesn't feel the need to talk about the fact that one out of ever four women and one out of ever six men in Baltimore are survivors of childhood sexual abuse. It makes you wonder why they don't want to educate the community on the issues and ramifications, and why they don't want to help the community heal?

Do you think this paper will write about Shumel Juravel? I heard he has an interesting past from his days in Baltimore.

Rabbi Eiseman, who is the Mashgiach of Ner Yisroel came on to me sexually, when I studied there. I know of several other people that this has happened to, and also that have made the hanhalla aware of this problem. As far as I know nothing has been done to investigate or to confront this horrible problem to date. Do other people know of similar stories? Will the Jewish Times in baltimore do an investigation at some point?

I'm sure the Jewish Times will do the story right after they do the stories on rabbis Yaakov "Ken" Menken, and Eliezer Eisgrau

Rabbi Eisemann is a cousin of Rabbi Eisgrau through marriage. He is a first cousin of Rabbi Eisgrau's wife's father. Rabbi Moshe Eisemann (The cousin (who has the same name, and passed away a number of years ago) was Rabbi Eisgrau's Rosh Yeshiva. He married his rosh yeshiva's daughter. I have never before heard allegations against Rabbi Eiemann of ia. I guess it runs in families...Who did you go to about this? What did they say? How did you get out of the situation and prevent his advances? Do you know of anyone else this has happened to with RAbbi Eisemann? Are you still religious?

Is Shmuel Juravel related to the Rabbi Juravel who teaches at Torah Institute where Rabbi Eisgrau is the principal?

Shmuel is the son of Rabbi Juravel. This case is really sad. If only the Juravel would have gotten him the right kind of help when he originally went off the derech in his teens. . . Shmuel may not be in prison today.

If only the rabbis in Baltimore, had the needed education. I know they do the best they can, but in this case it wasn't enough.

They need to work with law enforcement, and stop trying to handle sexual abuse cases on their own.

Not sure why Hillel Tendler keeps coming up in these conversations. I know Rabbu Tendler - whatever is alleged to have been done his relatives (I say alleged because I do not know the status or stories of their cases, but am not discounting it) really has no bearing on Hillel Tendler. I will be the first to back him up and support him. He has raised a fine, fine family, and is a talmud chochum, maagid shiur, and yorei shomaim. In fact, I am not even sure why his name is listed here.

I think all you need to do is google his name along with his brother Mordecai and you'll start to understand.

Here's a few links, but there's more:
