Re: Kehillat New Hempstead

Dear Rabbi Tendler:

This letter is being sent to you by the Board of Directors (“Board”) of Kehillat New Hempstead (“KNH”).

During the course of the last several weeks, the Board, due to an array of circumstances affecting KNH, has been forced to inquire and consider the realm of options available to ensure its objective of the survival and renewed viability for KNH. The circumstances reviewed include, but is not limited to, the following: (i) the accuracy of certain explanatory statements you have previously pronounced; (ii) a continuing spiritual deficiency in KNH due to an array of personal behavioral concerns; (iii) a related loss of membership; (iv) an associated overall decline of community support for KNH; (v) the lawsuit commenced by Adina Mermelstein; (vi) a linked lack of appeal of KNH; (vi) the failure to adequately apprise the Board of your defensive efforts; and, (vii) a corresponding loss of financial funds and support for KNH.

In light of the above, the Board has confirmed that there is lack of confidence in both your leadership and ability to function as the Rabbi/Rav of KNH. As such, the Board is firmly insisting that you pursue an immediate ‘leave of absence’, the leave to be reconsidered once the above circumstances are factually resolved in your favor. We would expect that existing compensation/financial matters to be discussed subsequent to your affirmative decision.

Given the long standing mutual relationship highlighted by the community’s inception, growth and outreach, we have pursued this necessary action with a heavy heart and much reflection. We, however, remain mindful of the above-mentioned circumstances and deem our actions herein to be consistent with our responsibility of maintaining a continuing, participating and viable community.

Needing an immediate resolution, we are optimistic that you will confirm your assent within the next five (5) days. If you do not agree to the referenced leave of absence the Board will be forced to undertake all necessary efforts and communications to achieve the desired objective(s).

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Board

Very truly yours,

Shlomo M. Pomeranz, President
Board of Directors
Kehillat New Hempstead
