The RCA Versus The RCA
By: Editorial Board
Wednesday, January 4, 2006

The stunning decision recently issued by the Jerusalem Regional Bet Din, declaring the Rabbinical Council of America to be “lo tsayis dina” for its failure to comply with is rulings in the Tendler matter, continues to reverberate. The turmoil within the RCA, as member rabbis wonder whether their affiliation is compatible with the halachic sanctions that apply to “lo tsayis dina,” persists. And concern for the validity ofkashrut certifications given by RCA members and for the viability of decisions of the RCA-affiliated bet din, The Beth Din of America, has not abated.

Unfortunately, instead of determining to bring itself into true compliance, the RCA has chosen to feign compliance for public consumption by misrepresentation and distortion. In addition, it has taken to circulating so-called rulings it has solicited from various batei din in the chassidic community that dismiss the Jerusalem Bet Din and ringingly support the RCA’s contention that the Jerusalem court had no jurisdiction in the matter — a concern the Jerusalem Bet Din considered and rejected twice.

It is clear that the RCA’s conduct in this matter has descended to a new low, particularly in its attacks on the Jerusalem Bet Din, and must be addressed.

As far as we’re concerned, this matter has now become a watershed in the history of the Orthodox Jewish community in America. Involved is nothing less than the continued viability of one of its heretofore esteemed rabbinic groups that by its conduct makes a mockery of the bet din process.

What the ?!?!? The Jewish Press' inaccurate coverage of the Tendler debacle is insulting and unconscionable. Is there a press association that complaints can be lodged with?

... and they call themselves an "independent newspaper"? It is obvious who is pulling the strings with money and influence.
