Court rejects Metzger's petition against A-G

High Court says Mazuz should not be reprimanded for not allowing Metzger defend himself against allegations of misconduct
The High Court of Justice rejected on Monday a petition by Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger that demanded Attorney General Menachem Mazuz be reprimanded for not allowing the rabbi to defend himself against an A-G report linking him to a number of allegations of misconduct.
Metzger decided to go ahead with the petition despite Mazuz's decision to adopt a past recommendation by the court that bribery allegations against Metzger be dropped from his report for lack of evidence and that the report be rewritten.In a previous hearing the court faulted Mazuz for not holding a hearing for Metzger to allow him to defend himself before the report's publication, saying the A-G had "put the cart before the horse."
The legal saga kicked off last April when Mazuz recommended that Metzger resign from his post for using his position to earn free stays at luxury hotels in Jerusalem while shunning a state-funded residence in the capital.In answering Metzger's petition, the court said there was no ground to reprimand Mazuz after he decided to drop the allegations against Metzger from a rewritten report.

I need to start off by saying I love Israel, it is our homeland.
After reading so much on various blogs and on the Awareness Center's web page I have a great deal of trouble wanting to financially support Israel. How can I send money to a country that lets a rapist by the name of Moshe Katsav off the hook. I don't care if he's the president. He needs to be held accountable and also pay restitution to his victims.
I just read up on the chief Ashkenazi rabbi. It sickens me. How can we allow our homeland be run by those who commit sexual offenses? Why isn't there public outcry? What will it take to get it started?

The Israel Women's Network, a women's rights group, condemned the government on Monday for commuting rape charges against former president Moshe Katsav's to sexual assault. The group said that the state will doubtfully deny him benefits for presidents and prime ministers, as it is required to do to officials convicted of a crime of moral turpitude.
According to Haaretz, Tziona Koenig-Yair, head of the Israel Women's Network, said without a conviction of a crime of moral turpitude against him, Katsav will still receive extensive retirement benefits.
"The state rushed to sign the former president up to a deal containing almost nothing of the original indictment, where he was charged with rape. The state didn't even ask for the agreement to include moral turpitude, which would effectively prevent him from returning to public life," the women's rights group head said.
