Does This Seem Right to You?

It's a fact, at one time all sex offenders were innocent children. As we all know the majority of sex offenders today have histories of being sexually victimized as children (not necessarily by their own parents). It's been said that "it takes a community to raise a sex offender". It's an issue we all need to look at and address immediately.

As we all know parenting is a difficult task. Most parents would do what ever it takes to protect their own child from harm, even as adults. Unfortunately, this includes children who grow up to be sex offenders.

We have a case that really needs discussion. This is the case of Rabbi Matis Weinberg. It's vitally important that we just don't forget it.

Matis Weinberg's "alleged" molesting career went on for decades. The first allegations made were many years ago -- when Matis allegedly molested a younger sibling. Nothing was done. Allegations were made again in the 1980's naming Matis as the offender, nothing was done. Allegations were made again a few years ago, naming Matis as the offender. Finally the case got some media attention, but that was about it.

How would you feel if you learned that there was a "coalition" forming in Baltimore to address sexual abuse, and one of it's active members is one of the parent's of an alleged or convicted sex offender? Not just any sex offender, but one who has over a thirty year history of allgedly molesting children?

How would you feel knowing that neither parent of this alleged sex offender did anything to stop ther child's behavior?

Some say the reasoning behind doing nothing was because it was more important for the parents to protect the "family name" and that of the yeshiva where the alleged offender's father was the rosh yeshiva.

I do want to point out that once the case got media attention the mother of this case did make a brief statement.

Read the case of Rabbi Matis Weinberg, and then answer this question. Would his mother be someone who should have influence on a coalition in Baltimore to end sexual abuse in Jewish communities?

I don't see her as being courageous at all. I believe she's a part of the problem.

How many years did Matis Weinberg allegedly molest boys? How many victims are there?

I think it's a sham that she's even involved in the DV world. I'm sick and tired of this crap.

I wonder how the survivors of Weinberg would feel knowing his mother is involved in this sort of coalition. Where is her son today? Has Mrs. Weinberg done anything to assure her son be in treatment with someone qualified to work with offenders? Has she done what she can to make sure those who have been victimized by her son got the help they needed?

I agree with everyone who posted something here, except for anon (the first poster).

Who in their right mind trust a coalition knowing the involvement of this particular mother of this child molester?

It sickens me to know that Mommy Weinberg has been posing as domestic violence guru for years. I don't believe she has ever called a single individual who her son abused to offer help. I also don't believe she ever contacted any of the parents of the boys.

Instead of offering support to those victimized she did what ever she could to discredit them and their families. Remember, that's the Ner Israel way.

I was just reading information at the Sidran web page. I'm really shocked that an organization that has been addressing trauma for this many years would want to be involved with someone like Weinberg.

When will we ever learn? When will the cycle of denial and doing nothing ever end?
